Welcome to the September issue of American Art Collector! This issue brings you our Collector’s Focus: Landscapes and the Art Lovers Guide to Washington, D.C., and the Mid-Atlantic States. Focusing on a genre and a region each month allows us to take a deep dive into a specific genre and the soul of a region for your collecting pleasure.
Recently, I gave a talk in Laguna Beach for the American Association of Interior Designers which has a membership of 13,500 professionals. For collectors, such as yourself, it is second nature to know art isn’t just decorative. In my talk, I said, “Original contemporary realism provides additional depth and character, giving the designer of the room more to build around, enhancing the emotional tone of the space.” That’s why we want art surrounding us in our rooms, on our walls and in our sculpture gardens.
Landscape art is our most popular section each year. This is because landscapes have a prominent place in most collections. Starting on Page 56 and spanning 12 pages, you will find helpful information on artists, their art, the galleries representing them, and where to purchase the right piece for your home. Landscape scenes captivate and move us, whether it’s a familiar scene that evokes a personal memory and transports us to a different place or time, or it depicts a place we’d like to visit one day. Either way, landscapes are the single most popular genre across the board, and the country, with each region celebrating its own particular beauty.
If you want to hear two great landscape artists tell their stories and share their inspiration, tune in to our podcast station The American Art Collective and listen to Kathryn Stedham (Episode 203) or James Randle (Episode 156). Both artists are very different in their painting styles and subject matter, but paintings by either would bring soul into any room, especially yours.
Enjoy the September issue and we hope you find the perfect art centerpiece to decorate your home around!
